Lifeboatman

Karen took her practical Lifeboatman training aboard the SS American Victory, located in Tampa, Florida. The SS American Victory was one of 534 Victory ships built during World War II to replace the Liberty class merchant vessel. During the training seminar, Karen took charge of a 42-man lifeboat, directing the launching and recovery process from the deck of the SS American Victory. Then she commanded the lifeboat in a simulated Abandon Ship drill, calling out the required oar commands in order for the boat to maneuver safely. To learn more about this vintage ship and its lifeboats, see The American Victory.
